Trailers: Sakaramenta, Malawi

Load carrying trailers and carts are popular products at Sakaramenta, with special commissions being amongst them. Two good examples are MEGA trailer for carrying a 1 tonne load and a smaller trailer for carrying maize or water cans.

MEGA Micro Hydro Project Trailer Mulanje Energy Generation Authority, MEGA, required a trailer designed to carry extremely heavy equipment up and down Mount Mulanje. an extensive mountain range in Malawi. Itr needed to be simple, strong and able to tolerate rugged landscape and so the MEGA Trailer was created. MEGA Micro Hydro Project Trailer Once the basic frame was complete, testing was done.	MEGA Micro Hydro Project Trailer Having tested the trailer using four cement bags, only two-thirds its load requirement, it was obvious further suspension was required to provide enough support for the basic structure.
MEGA Micro Hydro Project Trailer Additional support was provided by means of a very strong Land Rover spring, and shock-absorbers were used to prevent additional bounce.	Chikwawa Trailer A less complex trailer than the MEGA trailer, the Chikwawa trailer was required simply to be able to transport some bags of maize or jerry cans of water over shorter distances.
Chikwawa Trailer Painted light grey so as not to absorb the heat of the sun whilst providing camouflage for dirt accumulated from the dusty roads. A stylish handle was also incorporated to provide a more aesthetically appealing design.	Chikwawa Trailer A lower barrier to the rear provided ease of loading and unloading for heavier items, whilst rear reflectors provided safety on the roads.
